An awkward composition. You have a vertical subject in a landscape frame. Plus your subject is centered in the frame - not ideal especially here. I would have liked to have seen this shot zoomed out more and have the boat at one of the "thirds" position. A good shot isn't always about getting as close to your subject as possible. This composition does not work for me.

well. acutally I do know the normal subject should at on of the thirds position but I didnt use that way. because I think where the subject on the photo depending on what effect you wanna show.

the boat on the central of photo just makes the image balance.

however. I cant make sure my points are correct. :o

This crop places the mast on a third and the boat near a power point. I think it brings a little more focus on the boat as the main subject if that was your intent. In the original crop the landscape seems to be the subject more than the boat. What do you think?

The original image also works very well for me as it is a beautiful landscape. The Rule of Thirds really should have been named the Suggestion of Thirds.

Nice shot Alextian, and the colour treatment gives the photo a great feel. The cropped version is also very good.

With the water horizon being dead center and the boat being dead center the image has two strikes against it right off the bat. Two things that help is the 'other' horizon is at the 1/3rd level and the projection at camera right ends at the 1/3rd area of the image. So these four elements fight each other and keep the image at the 'nice but OK' level IMHO.

Benji it reminds me a horror film then a beautiful shot. you have to practice more and more to say the truth just the truth because from the truth we learn i don't like it at all doesn't give me any sense. i don't like the colors in general you have to be more creative and expressive with your photos

I love it, it's a very peaceful and relaxing photo, and it doesn't bother me at all that the horizon and boat are dead center. Sometimes 'the rule of third' can be broken and work, and this is one of those times. :)

I think they are both very nice shots and tend to favor the crop a bit more. Makes me want to lay on the shore and take a nap.

I love both the original and the cropped shots. I think the cropped shot takes too much of the mist out, though.
