I was out photographing birds today but they didn't really cooperate.
This different kind of bird flew by overhead instead. :)

Fantastic! Such an apparently simple shot, yet I can look at it for ages. It has a surreal quality.

Could you please tell us how you shot it, and with what? I'm looking forward to taking my new EOS 20D to some air shows in the summer.

Thanks everyone for your nice comments!

Ken, I was out looking for the feathered kind of bird and simply looked up and around to scout for the Osprey I was waiting for when I saw this above me instead. The plane must have flown quite low as I saw a lot of detail just using my eyes. I took the shot partly out of boredom, partly because I just liked how the plane looked almost icy, and it turned out much better than the regular bird shots I got. Maybe there's a lesson of sorts in that, be ready to catch whatever turns up instead of planning too much. :)

Camera and lens was a 1D Mark II with a 500/4 and 1.4x.
