I'm thinking of buying the kata e-702 raincover but am hesitant because I don't know how small it will pack. does anyone have or can anyone take a picture of their kata e-702 packed up/folded or however you are supposed to store it so that I can get an idea of it's size. maybe with something to help reference the size?

if so, could you post it or email it to me?
thanks ahead of time.

Doesn't have a case. It's fairly bulky - for best results fold it fairly large and slide it into a big outside pocket. That's because it uses a heavy nylon and a thick clear plastic for the viewing area. Unless you're planning to upgrade camera or lenses soon, the E-690 might do as well, and will be a tad smaller.

I'm actually planning on getting the 100-400 L in the (relatively) near future.

I'm torn between getting the kata and getting the small rain cover from fotosharp.com (similar to a storm jacket)

If its fairly bulky, although it looks great and extremely functional, I think maybe I should get the fotosharp.com one instead because it sounds like its much smaller.

I'll try to get a folded photo tonight. I've used it with the 100-400 without the E-704 kit on it, which has a "hood-like" rigid front anchor, but I have both.

Here 'tis: Pen's about 6" long; there are about 4-5 layers of material there. It won't make much of a bulge in the main compartment of a bag.

well shoot. that's not too overly big. Maybe i need to rethink it all and try out that kata. it looks so nice and functional and with my new tc-80N3 I could set up some pretty neat shots and just leave the camera out in the elements with this lovely set up.

how does the lens cover attach/affix itself around the lens? Velcro? Stretchy material? Pull cord? Will it cover the 100-400 when it is zoomed all the way out?

Thanks for your help Jon. I really appreciate it.

You see the velcro on the top of the pic? That's a semi-rigid material that clinches around the lens hood. There are also pull cords for both sleeves and in addition to the semi-rigid bit for the lens. I don't recall if I used the 100-400 all the way out, but it does quite well for out to 300 mm on it any way.The Kata E-704 provides additional lens hoods for several larger lenses, if needed. You only need the one(s) for your particular lens(es), generally super-teles.

well if you get bored and want to test out whether it'll cover a 100-400 zoomed all the way out, I'd love to hear the results. Or if anyone else knows? If I need an additional lens raincoat, then I don't think I would go the kata route just because of size concerns (I'm planning on carrying this around through asia on a 6 month backpacking trip)

I'd totally recommend practicing with it on your 100-400. I have it and have found it frustrating, particularly if you want to zoom in/out. Not that smooth, at least not for me. I haven't tried it in the real environment (ie out in the rain, on a boat, somewhere near a waterfall...) but based on my "practice" with it, I will not attempt it on iffy weather, only on known downpours.

Is there something better out there? Yeah, the aquatech is a much better product. For a much, much higher price...

SNAFU! thank you so much. that certainly answered my question and i think i'm going to bite the bullet and go for the kata raincover. they should give you a cut of the profits though, because it was your photos that convinced me.

it always amazes me how few and poor most photos on company websites are....especially for stores that are camera related?! nothing puzzles me more than when they are trying to sell you a camera bag and there is no picture of the inside of the bag....like we are buying the bag for the looks on the outside. ridiculous. okay, done with my rant.

thanks again though!
