Tamron 28-80/3.5-5.6 ASPHERICAL F/CANON EOS

It's $89 'special blowout price' but doesn't say what the usual selling price was.

The deal is, I just bought my dad an EOS A2 body for his birthday, I'd like to get him a basic lens too and that's about the limit of my budget. I don't want to get something crappy though. Any advice or suggestions?

I'd say someone likes it. For $90, I don't think it could get much better.

I have one, it is super sharp for the price, SUPER SHARP. comes with a hood, and takes the same size filters as the kit lens, which makes it a great replacement... even though i still use my kit lens a lot for that extra 10mm of width

Thanks again! I was able to cancel my order and get it through s4less -- even their shipping was cheaper (to US..I have a US address). At $59 I ordered one for myself as well. :D

Would you say that this Tamron 28-80 is WAY better than the EF-S 18-55?
Cause I'm thinking about getting the Sigma 18-125. But this is more than 3 times the cost of the Tamron.

Should I get the SIgma 18-125 and sell the kit lens,
or should I geth the tamron and keep the kit?

Btw, I just ordered a 70-300 APO DG MACRO from Sigma4less. Just spoke to Dave about 10 min ago! Help me decide so I can get another lens now!

i had the lens on a previous camera (nikon mount) and i broke it. the plastic mount snapped and the lens came flying off the body. you get what you pay for. ill admit though the camera did fall but it landed on grass. if it were metal mount, it would not have broken because the fall was not that bad. maybe a foot from the ground. its a slow lens. and for the money, i would get a 50mm prime. not as practical but your pictures come out a hell of alot better. besides, isnt that important?
