I have an opportunity to buy a used Pro 4000 locally, and am wanting input from other users as far as ink usage, up-keep, quality, etc. I have used a Canon s9000 for 3 years and am still pleased with its results, but am interested in getting 17" prints too. The ink cartridges seem to run $65 each, so that in itself worries me a bit.

You can ink cartridges cheaper than that from atlex.com. I s the printer in warranty still if not be careful because some of them have a real clogging problem that is why under the epson warranty it is a replacement type warranty. just be careful. John

I owned this printer and recently sold it on ebay. It is a true workhorse. I had it for a year and never had a clog. The ink cartridges are more like $53 per on B&H and Adorama, though if you scour ebay you can often get an excellent deal. I recently bought a set of 8 for my 4800 on ebay. These were the large 220 ml size. A set new, delivered, by B&H would have cost me $750. I won the auction for less than $400 including shipping.

The printer does not use ink quickly either. The cartridges are so large, even the small ones, that it is much more economical than other printers. It gives great results.

Go here and you will see two excellent reviews of this printer, along with a review of the new one, the 4800. There's also a rather technical, math laden review of cost per print, etc.

Thanks Mark. I knew I'd like the results, I am just used to spending $12 a cartridge.
Guess I'll have to start getting paid for prints now.
