Should I? Its either this, or the $7,000 from seacam or ikelite or something like that or buy a 20D + housing for about 2,300$. I know the housings are more expensive for a reason. But the one I linked is rated to 150 feet and I dont go beyond 100 feet anyways.

Subal or Seacam, Ikelite doesn't make a housing. There might be another manufacture.. I think Atlantis or something like that..

Anyway, I have the Ewa-Marine U-AXP 100. It takes some skills to use it underwater.

Hmm. I don't think that looks like a good sollution. At 100 feet (30m) even with the 1D and a lightsucking prime you would want extra light to get the colors right. I'm extreamly satisfied with my Ixus 700 and managed to tage decent pictures at 100-110 feet as long as I was using the flash. Light is so important. An Ikelite houseing or the like will allow you to use all the buttons on the camera AND attach a external strobe or two. I saw some pictures that a pro took in Indonesia and wow... I would love to bring my 20D and a wide angle prime below but it's so expensive. :) My next upgrade will be a strobe to attach to the Ixus housing with build in on off button in the handle.

Taken at approx. 80 feet usin a flashlight + flash (bad mix i know).

Any other comments? Have you used it for diving? If so, how deep?

Did it seem water-leaky?

Do you use it with your 1-series?

Not sure I would be happy taking my 1D down in what is effectivly a plasic bag. I would love to get a rigid housing but that is way too much money.

I have never dived with anyone using one of these "soft" housings and to be honest I have not looked at them but surly once you get below 5 meters the bag will just "cling" to the camera and this will only get worse as you get deeper, I fully accept that I may be blowing bubbles here and they are not from my regulator ;)

I just dove with the Ewa-Marine in Hawaii to the Corsair to 105ft using my 1dsmk2. Go to my photoblog, and go to the "Still Life" you'll see the pix of the Corsair.

This is a temporary solutiuon. I have someone that is going to make me a custom housing for the Mk2s that I have. sorry, don't even bother asking. It is a favor to me, limited productions :)

As for this EWA-Marine. Make sure you buy a weights for it. Not the internal one, as it doesn't fit with the mk2s. You have to get the external.

My first dive to The Sea Tiger (120ft), the camera locked up, because I didn't have enough air in it. I wasn't about to start blowing air in to it. Since I have $8k just in the bag.

My 2nd dive to the pipes at night, it was 45ft, and it was a little bit positive.

Than the Corsair, which I got enough air @ depth of 105ft so it was neutral. However during the ascent, it was like a balloon. So unless you are totally comfortable with your bouyancy. I would suggest not using the bag. During descent you have to ride it like a horse, or drag it down like a little b#$#h.

Also, pretty much all the controls is USELESS at 60ft+ I couldn't turn the dials. Everything is shot in AV mode, at f/5 I tried turning the knob, but it takes so much effort you start to burn air.\

Also, because of the compression from the bag, my 580EX was pushed pretty hard so it was in "Bounce flash" mode. I guess it works out okay. I need to try to see if the 14mm panel help spread the light more.

I dove with both the 24-105mm IS and the 16-35mm. at 24 it is bad. Vignetting and soft side (need dome port). I won't even both with 16-24.... Also... because of the pressure, zoom is useless. And you need a lens that has internal focusing.

Usage note. For whatever reason... nothing through the viewfinder was in focus.... It might be the plastic + air... but I couldn't tell... however if you are able to get the bag right, you should be able to use the AF system. You'll have to learn how to use both eyes to composition your shot, and trust your AF system.

Final note, during descent. Make sure you hold the lens port against your lens. If you don't during compression it will set in the wrong way.

Wow... you had a 580EX in that bag aswell? What about condensation? Usually the flash on even a small camera like my ixus warms up the housing causing condensation.

The image in my mind of you doing that while swearing profusely into your regulator is just too funny for words!

LOL, yes it can be alittle hilarious. Though I have a buddy phone system as well. And that can get quite interesting when I start getting frustrated with the bag :)
