This is my first attempt at the dfly, all hand held, spur of the moment thing. Settings: 350d, 75-300mm 4.5@300mm, f16.0, av200, iso400.

Nice bad for you first attempt. Dragonfly, damselfly and butterfly always make beautiful subject.
Try smaller aperture, f/8 for example. That would separate the dragonfly from the bg more and really makes the subject pop.

Keep practicing.:)
