I want to buy one today:

1Ds used, Ex+ KEH $2899 or 5D new $2959 KEH.

Both are essentially the same price, both FF, but the 1Ds is beefier and has a built-in grip but used. Which do you recommend?

Look at some of the other specs such as fps, ISO performance, bracketing features, buffer, write speeds and decide which stats are pros and cons.

The 5D, newer technology, much better ISO performance and a $300.00 rebate.

I was leaning this way anyway, plus the rebate gets me a 'free' grip and battery.
Thanks.

My vote for the 5D, unless you really need the prof features. New technology and the best IQ available in a Canon.

Definitely the 5D. If you need weather sealing, get a 1DII. Otherwise, definitely get the 5D.

Personally, what I really want is a weather sealed 5D.

I went 1Ds and love it.

45 point autofocus, weather sealing, .wav file annotation, super long battery life, AI servo tracks up to 300kmh, no dodgy grip issues, no serial number problems, ISO performance is just fine at 1250. I seem to get shots at night with no flash and F/4 glass in the city. I don't usually take pictures in the pitch black.

I'd go 5D unless you really need the advanced AF system of the 1Ds. The $300 rebate just sweetens the deal.

5D. 1Ds is a tricky camera, according to many opinions from different forums; unless you know pretty much exactly how to use it and what for (studio), you'll be disappointed. Plus what has been already mentioned - ISO, etc.

5D and holy trinity of primes. Now the 90mm TS-E TS-E fly bit me. I hate these forums.

I spoke to canon NZ over a simlar situation. There comment stay with the 5D as te 1ds was produced in 2002 and the technology wtih the 5D is more current. The big advantage I was after was weather sealing. The guy I spoke to felt the image quality would be better on the 5D
