Took this picture recently in Sao Miguel Azores. Looking for some advise on taking better pictures.

nice shot seems to be sharpened too much and a little dark could use some pp really cool tho

Post Processing. It's obvious that shot was not taken with a tripod because it has frozen the water, i.e. fast shutter speed instead of slow.

I agree on the underexposure and oversharpen.
If you can post the original photo before editing, together with its exif data, would be helpful for others to advice you.

In Photoshop you can use Image->Adjustments->Shadow/Hightlights to lighten the dark shadows where you've lost details. Your original seems to have plenty of details so slight sharpening is optional. You have foreground, midground and background elements in your shot which gives the image a sense of depth and dimension, which is good. However, if you want the viewer to focus on the waterfall, the foreground element on the right seems to compete for attention.
