Looking for a REALLY small laptop...

Does anybody know about REALLY small laptops, for example A5-size (that's 21 x 15cm, or 8.3 x 5.9 inches)?

I have a portable storage device right now (a 40 GB SmartDisk FlashTrax) but I'd like to have a Windows XP laptop that's useful for more things, like some (very) basic image editing, surfing on Internet, e-mail etc.

I know about the Flybook. Ah, I see now that it's currently also available with Intel Celeron or Pentium M processor, there used to be only a version with a strange and slow Transmeta processor. But still, those are expensive...

Toshiba Libretto- 7" widescreen

Sony made a vaio with full PC capabilities that had a 5" screen...don't know the name, though. U-series or something like that.

I just read up more on the Libretto. Pentium M ULV 1.2, 512 RAM, 60 gig drive, DVD burner, Atheros Wifi and Bluetooth, fingerprint reader, and a 7.2" widescreen. Man...doesn't that just sound sexy? 'bout $2,000 for the "good stuff".

My brother has a PC phone. It has a keyboard that slides out of the side and is the size of a cell phone a few years ago. When guys with big hands could hold them.

I got the Libretto for just that purpose. Bumped it up to a gig of RAM, loaded my photo tools on it and I'm quite happy with it. You're not going to get much smaller. Also has 2x USB2, 1x FireWire, PC-Card and SD slots. Takes its own funky video cable dongle for hooking up to an external monitor (about $50 shipped - one comes with it - I got another for home and a spare). Screen's 1280x768; I get 3 hr or so on default power settings. Let's see - what else? It uses 1.8" drives, so upgrading the HDD isn't currently practical. The DVD burner locks onto the bottom for a 3 lb. bundle; it's 2 lb. and fits easily in the end of the Domke without it. I doubt you'll do much better until Toshiba upgrades it.

The most powerful Flybook model (the V33i) actually has nice specs - it has an ultra low voltage Pentium M @ 1.2 GHz (like the Toshiba), and it has built-in GSM and GPRS (so it's also a mobile phone - you can plug in your SIM card into it).

It doesn't have a CD or DVD drive (though you can connect an external drive to it, ofcourse).

It also looks nicer from the outside than the Toshiba...

The smallest Sony VAIO laptop I can find on Sony's website is the VAIO TX Series which has an 11.1 inch screen. It's A4-size, which is already a step bigger than the Toshiba or the Flybook. It's also expensive... (more than € 2,600...).

Hey Jesper, smallest ones I could find are sold at Alternate. I'm not too sure about how far away you're located from Ridderkerk (ZH), but I get all of my hardware from there.

I discovered they have a bunch of 12" ones. I'd like to get one as well, since it's a lot easier to carry with you when you go on holiday, or large photography trips.

The Asus W5F is still quite expensive, almost € 2000.
The MSI S262W looks very interesting, and not too expensive, about € 1250...
