If you have not done so, use the the 300 with some extension tubes and you will be impressed with the results.

Very dark day here, Had to get the ISO up to 8000 to get a shutter speed anywhere near enough for birds in flight. Good thing that Chaffinches like to hover before they land :)

Thanks Charles. This was taken with the 1D IV. The 5D3 could also have managed this ISO level, it's a very impressive camera.

Seriously thinking of selling my 400 5.6 and picking up one of these. While I would miss the extra reach I think being f4 with IS would give me more keeper shots than the 400 considering I tend to use it a lot in wooded areas.

If you ad a 1.4 extender, it will make 420mm with IS!...:D

If you shoot in wooded areas, IS is a must.
