hi all
which is better to use with this lens?
canon Extender EF 1.4X II
or the new one
canon Extender EF 1.4X III

Thanks

I have not heard that the 1.4 mkIII is optically much better than the mk II version, but that it is better matched electronically (speed of AF, for instance) to the latest long prime and zoom lenses. There are some improvements apparently in barrel distortion and contrast but these are relatively minor.

Of course, if you can afford it, go for the best, but I wouldn't be concerned about getting another 1.4X mkII for my EF300f4. If I was making the huge investment on a 400 2.8 mkII I would certainly go for the mkIII extender though.

I use the mk II version with this lens. I can't see anything that would be improved by the mk III version.

If you're going to get a longer/faster lens in the future, spend the money on the mk III, otherwise, the mk II will be just fine.

Like what was said earlier, the difference is mainly on electronics. I actually use the Mk I on my 300mm and I personally like the output. :)

my experience today with the rental says 'pretty good', but not enough for shooting from the tower lol. The two Nikon guys next to me had their 700s.

(both shots are cropped)
