Spent the Thursday morning with Pat (finally met him and Butch) in THE WEDGE, and this shot was taken in Huntington beach that morning too. Critics welcome this is my first try of shooting surfers and definitely I'd love to do it again. Thank you Pat and Butch for meeting up with me I appreciate the hospitality of both of you and Dan O.

God I love this lens on the 7D for motorsports. I had some really good success this weekend at Mid-Ohio, mostly with the 1.4x converter.

I might go again tomorrow to watch the race. I need to nail down my long distance IQ and figure out what works best. This is ~1.75 miles the tower is 2.25 miles

Well, The US OPEN of SURFING opened yesterday with 7ft swell and decided to armed myself with this firepower...a 1DsMKII + 1.4xII + 2.xII + 300 F4L IS.

Opening Day...US OPEN of SURFING 2013 (external link) by OC PAT (external link), on Flickr

unfortunately, the weather turned out crappy the whole morning due to heavy marine layer and the sun never came out. On/Off showers to add on top of it...

TC's stacked on manual mode/focus 1/1250, ISO 1600, f14 using partial metering mode and shot handheld <----

Did you see this morning's race? Man, my heart was in my mouth when that jib halyard broke....I thought they were history. And lucky for the Italians that the chase boat got to the sail and forced them to tack...its hard to know whether they would have been able to see it and hitting it at 25 knots or more would have done way more damage than having to tack.

The Team NZ boat seemed a little less stable without the headsail, but Dean Barker and co did a terrific job keeping her going so fast!
