Your not shooting through window glass, or possibly a cheap filter with non-optical glass by any chance, that can cause some odd bokeh effects with this lens.

You were right, the odd striped bokeh is gone now as i removed the hoya uv filter.
I thought hoya would be fine, and it wasnt a cheap one.
What kind of uv filter do you usually use for L lenses? I would use something to protect the front glass of the lens.

Just use the filter that you have, and when you shoot with the lens, take it off. That's what I do.

All I can say is "WOW," very sharp and that includes using the 1.4x in the last few shots. I am impressed.

Twoshadows - more incredible photos! Excellent indoor and outdoor shots. It seems that I will not get any hummer shots this year. I have them in the garden and they will not hang out. So I get hawk moths - they're close enough, I suppose. At least they act like hummingbirds!

Macroshot,

Thanks for the good words. :) I love the 300mm f/4 IS for stage work. Sorry to hear you're not getting any hummingbird photos :( , but I think the Hawk moths are REALLY awesome.

I got a kick out of this dog earlier today. It's tongue matches it's leash and collar. Testing out the lens as it had just come back from Canon. Wide open in AI servo.

Has anyone enjoyed using the 300 f/4.0 for action sports? I am interested in soccer, track & field and football. Thanks!
