Is anyone using this lens with the 2x on full frame? I was wondering how the IQ works out and the AF?

When I looked into it all I saw were people saying that because it puts the aperture to over f5.6 that AF would cease to function. I could be wrong though.

An ignorant question: is the combo 300 f/4IS with the 1.4x better than the 400 f/5.6 because you get IS?

I'm thinking mostly for birds, in flight and stationary.

I have a Canon EF 2x II and AF does not work paired with this lens with a 5DIII. Also, you're largest Av is F/8.0 paired with that. The 1.4 is a better match for birding, sports etc where you need your AF and you don't loose as much aperture/speed.

The only way the Canon 2x TC works with AF on this lens is with a 1-series body as the others need at least f/5.5 to AF.

Becoming a gear junkie.
