Went back to the waterfall today. I took some images yesterday at high noon. The C&C I got on them where better than expected. Thanks for that. So I went back today ealier to see if I could get better results. This is my 2nd attempt longer exposure shots. (300D Kit lens, shooting mode TV, and auto color with photoshop. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

I like #2 better than #1 because I can see more of the surrounding landscape, but it's at the price of losing some of the water detail. It's definitely a tough exposure to get -- maybe impossible given the limitations of the exposure range. I'm not sure if there's any time of day that you wouldn't have this problem given this location.

I can't remember from your earlier posts if you are shooting RAW or not. If you are, my suggestion will be a little easier, but it would be possible either way.

You might try doing a sort of pseudo-HDR shot. Process one for the water, and one for the surrounding landscape. Paste one (say the one processed for water) on top of the other (the one processed for the surrounding landscape) as a new layer. Erase the improperly exposed landscape from the top layer, allowing the properly exposed landscape to appear next to the properly exposed water.

Looks like a fun place to shoot.

Yeah I had not done any PS to the images except for the auto color. I will look into performing your suggestions on the images. Thanks for the information. This stream is loaded with small waterfalls and moss covered rocks. It is a great place to take pictures.

The thing I think that hurts the area of this particular falls is that to the left of it is a major highway with is very open and bright most of the time. All that light that isn't dampend because of the lack of timber seems to always allow a lot of light to come in on the falls. I was back up there yesterday evening at 8:00pm EST and it looks totally different then in the morning or midday time. The water is crystal clear, and doesn't have all the whiteness that it does in the day time. I have to go back to the falls this evening because I dropped a CF card yesterday at the location. I think I know where, so I'm in the hunt for it. I am taking along the camera to take some evening shots. Have to wait and see how they turn out.

Thanks again for the suggestions. Have a good day.

Nice shots Travis...its hard to believe something so pretty would be next to a highway, until we see the shots of the culvert! Play with 'highlights & shadows' in PS with the first shot. You will be surprised how much detail you will be able to get in the large shadows along the banks. I hope you find your CF card.

I live in a small Kentucky town sugarzebra that is so full of beautiful scenery in all these mountains surrounding my home. My plans are to start locating and photograph all these places, and getting the best possible images I can from all the various locations I find. I plan on hopefully putting all the images into a book that reflects all the beautiful places in my hometown for people to see. So many of these types of places go un-noticed by the general public. I thought it would be neat to just show others what beauty lies beyond the tree lines and atop the high wooded mountain tops that they never new existed.

I will begin PS on the image to see what results I can get with the image. I will post up the results later. Thanks again

Travis
