Okay, so when I shoot in burst mode, I get an Err 02 message. It seems to shoot just fine with just the CF card in there, but when I set it up to shoot a burst with the CF recording the jpegs and the SD recording RAW files, I get the Err 02 message and the camera freezes up. I experienced this for the first time today when I was at a local camera shop trying out the 70-200L. I'm currently downloading what I have on my SD card right now and will reformat the card and try it again. In the meantime, any insight would be helpful. ;)

I think you're right. I just checked the firmware and I've got version 1.0.0  Time to go download. BRB.

Well, the firmware update looks like it did the trick. Funny, but I checked the firmware when I first got the camera and made a mental note of that. I forgot about it, and it didn't even cross my mind when I was having the issue. Guess I'm getting senile.

Careful Lordy, with the 1D series comes an awesome amount of responsibility. We'll let you off with a warning this time. The 1D police might not be so forgiving in the future!! :):);)

How are you liking it?

I was going to suggest you dump the camera right away with so many problems and preferably sell it to me for a couple grand but I see you got it fixed......DAMN

Glad you sorted it out, I'm just jealous!

Okay. I'm back to square one, guys. Everything was working fine. Decided to try to fill both cards to see if the problem was gone for sure. Nope. Still there. Caught about 50 or so images before I started seeing the the Err 02 message again. Something just ain't right. And I hope it's the card and not the camera.

First thing I did when I first ran into this problem, Mr. Clark. ;) According to the manual, it's definitely a card issue...

*Excerpt from Canon EOS-1D Mark II N owner's manual (page 179)
"There is a problem with the memory card. Try any of the following: Remove and reinstall the memory card. Format the memory card. Use a different memory card."

Did all of the above except use a different SD card. Could it be I just got a bad SD card? :(

Where'd you get yours from Malone? I just got mine on Tuesday from B&H and it came with 1.0.2

I also have some 2GB Ultra II CF and one 2GB Ultra II SD cards coming in.... That'll be the one and only SD card I have (except for the 16mb one from an old cheapie P&S) and I'm hoping it's an issue with your particular card, and not with that combination in this camera syle.

most likely. Coming from CF only cameras, I had to add SD cards. Bloody pain, but I like them for many reasons. Sorry to hear this Lord. Hang in there. keep us posted.

I traded my 5D for it, so it's not a brand spanking new 1d mkIIn. According to the owner it had less than 9000 actuations (file number seemed to confirm this, but I can't be 100% sure of course), and it arrived to me in "like new" condition. Could hardly tell it was even used at all. Very clean. However, this is the first time I'm running into an issue with the brand new SD card. Just got the card in the mail yesterday. Let me know if you have problems with your card.

Willdo. So you're getting the error writing in split mode, with the JPG going to the CF and the RAW going to the SD?

Have you tried the other way 'round? Send the Raw to the CF and the JPG to the SD? Or how about "backup" mode- sending both RAW+jpg to both cards?

Maybe there's a bottleneck somewhere that slows the SD write speed down.

Doc.
