Thanks!! Shot in Raw. Played around with it some and now it looks ok. Could be sharper I think though but people insist that the 20d is sharp.. Could be the tamron though. who knows.

Very nice photo. It looks sharp enough on my Mac monitor. Copper heads may be very poisonous, but I find them pretty (my wife is terribly scared of snakes, though).

They are venomous but there hasnt been a recorded death in missouri from a copperhead bite in over 70 years. More people die of bee stings than snake bites. I find them very beautiful animals.

Very nice, i love snakes, probably my favorite type of animal. Just be very careful, its only a copperhead but it can still be quite dangerous. Nice shot, keep it up :D

Sweet statement of color and camouflage for the copperhead. Flash is a little hot, but it doesn't look like you had many other options if it was in the wild and on the forest floor. I like it a lot. Watch where you step! I lived in snake country, but it was rattlesnake country out west. Bombed around Macon, Georgia, a bit too, but never hit the river bottoms where those nasty cottonmouths hang out. Yikes!

If there's any lack of sharpness it'd be from the Tamron, not the Canon, IMO. I shoot the 20D mostly, and the Canon 100-400L mostly for wildlife like this. I have a Tamron 70-300 macro, which isn't especially sharp and lacks some of the rich contrast and subtle color I get with the 100-400. Which Tamron are you shooting here?

Do copperhead snakes really smell like cucumbers? I've always heard that but have never seen one up close and personal ;)

Nice shot, BTW
