I think the picture looks pretty good.. I think the white balance looks pretty good and the DOF works.. Maybe up the saturation a little bit more and sharpen the image cause I see some soft lines. Apart from that It'd be pretty good.

nice capture!! the red cushion a little distracting, good depth of field and a little oversaturated.

Let's deal with what you have here -

Crop to a Portrait orientation and print it as large as you dare.

You've got a winner!

Ask yourself this question, "Does anything in the picture take away from the primary subject?". Even though Robert already gave you a hint....

thanks for the advice guys...

So you'd say at this point, sacrifice the coloring book and off center composition for just a plain centered portrait? Could do...

I would try a little more contrast?

or clone out the black stand. In portrait, take out distrupting items, than take out things that doesn't improve the picture.

If you increase the contrast, it will be ever so slightly... or she will look saturated and dark... not good for kids.

You have a nice shot there, nicely framed.

I had a quick go at a few conversions to try and give it a little more umpff.

Applied a little USM and changed levels a little in the first.

Second had a midnight sepia action run on it.

The main subject is wonderful, however I find my eyes keep wandering to the right, strikes me all it needs is a crop.

yes, because the black stand against the white background... our eyes are attracted to high contrast things. Being black item on a white background, it doesn't get any distracting than that.

Thanks everyone for your advice...

cmpowell, I really like your second conversion there... can you explain a little more detailed how you acheived that soft angelic look? I really like it.

After applying USM, and adjusting the levels slightly, i ran the midnight sepia action (http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm (external link)) (actual zip: http://www.atncentral.com …tions/MidnightSepiav2.zip (external link))

This does most of the work for you.

I then tweak the opacity of the layers to get a nice finish.
