Went for a little drive today with my 4 year old. He's into birds; my older son's too bored...; and came across 2 Osprey nests (different from yesterday's non-post). Still wasn't able to see them fishing though..., Maybe next time.

First Nest !

Nice ones Ted!

Lighting seems to have been a challenge? What time of day?

The lighting is creating very harsh shadows. Try going over there again before sunset, or at sunrise to get the lighting right. Other than that I like them.

Thanks Marc; Was going to COSTCO with Zach; and threw the camera in the car and decided to take a little detour along the way...Close to NOON...Not the best time of day to be shooting eh? ...

Good captures! I find Ospreys are quite active mid-day as opposed to other birds, maybe they need the light so see the fish. It's s a problem though as the harsh light isn't very nice for photography. I've waited many evenings for fishing Ospreys but as least the ones I've seen seem to pack it in earlier in the afternoon.

Maybe you got some harsh lighting conditions, but now you know where to find theme for some more shots. I like the perch in the second shot...

Nice shots Ted, we have tons around here in Florida, they do seem to be active mornings and mid-day. I hear them when they are fishing in the backyard canals. I usually will open a 1/3 to 2/3 stop to really bring out those yellow eyes. The shots are great!!

Thanks Anders; I've been told that they active during the afternoon too. I will just have to try for a little better conditions next time.

Thanks Dan; Forever the "Optimist" thanks for giving me a boost.

Well its pretty obvious I have had little access to my computer the last few days when i have to go to page 2 and find what appears to be the second installment.....its all been said Ted and the next step sounds like we have to get together and take some shots of thsese guys in early morning light :D I like the flight shot ( timing and wing tips) but high noon can be tough...remember that Barred Owl in harsh light..? .very tough and I think that was same time of day but much lower angle.

Gary Fairhead C/C welcome .....

Thanks Gary; Appreciate your comments. Wasn't really expecting to find anything; but you never know eh? As for Part II...I never did post PART 1.:p Found the first nest on top of a lighting standard in a baseball park (Beckwith Township & During a GAME !) Close by home though..10 minute drive. The other 2 nest are relatively close to each other (March Valley Rd & Thomas Dolan Parkway) March Valley having the Best vantage point for viewing...
