Most will tell you that, no the DG isn't worth the extra. However, I haven't known anyone that's owned both DG and Non DG Sigma 120-300 and has been in a position to observe the differences. The DG designation indicates that there is a special coating on the lens to work better with Digital SLR. Evidently light can bounce off the shiny sensor and back onto the rear element. The coating is supposed to reduce this effect.
I don't know if you are looking to buy new, but the Non DG's are pretty much gone. The price of this lens is rising, over the course of the last couple months (as much as $200 at B&H) as I think demand is rising for it. If you want a non DG, then the used market is pretty much your answer.
