I am so frustrated and angry right now. My Tamron 28-75 was sharp in the middle but soft on the right hand side, this was confirmed by a local repair agent. They sent it off to Tamron (overseas) for repair, it has been almost 3 months and I am still waiting!!!! They keep telling me they are waiting for a replacement part, but I think now I have the power to ask for a refund. I have had enough with them.

So my question to you all is, what should I do? Keep waiting? Ask for a replacement Tamron, only to go through this again if it is soft? Or ask for a full refund and buy a different lens - maybe the Sigma or something else. Please help!

there are bad copies of all lenses. Canon is said to be very good on their return times, though.

This is one of the most useless posts I've seen here in a long time.

With any large company where you are sending equipment overseas for repairs, there are going to be a few customers who don't get good service. The archives of this forum are filled with people who have had bad experiences with Canon service. Unfortunately, it happens, and a single bad experience is a darn poor reason to swear off the products of an otherwise good manufacturer.

The OP's frustration is justified. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail, he should speak to the Tamron folks to try to get a new lens sent to him soon.

Get a new one or a refund. Sigma are very responsive in my experience and so the obvious alternative choice of you get a refund. Three months is terrible even if they are waiting for a part (which actually sounds ridiculous, after all they are making this lens every day so they can't have a big backlog of lenses waiting for this one part too can they?)

Actually, Canon -HAS- had this sort of problem, and worse. I had a 75-300mm IS that needed repairs. I had to send it to Canon THREE TIMES before they actually repaired it correctly, and I was without my lens for a total of 24 weeks (2 weeks shy of 6 months).

No it isn't... not in my humble opinion. If that isn't a good reason to dump a vendor in that country... I really don't know what is. Where an expensive product is less than a year old a 1 week turnaround is too long.

Hi Shniks
I see you are in Victoriia. Look up Small Claims/ VCAT and download a claim form. Then if you elect to do so (Im not a lawyer so I cant advise) then you have the option to lodge a claim against them under the Fair Trading act of Victoria. I used this process many times and am very impressed in how well it works to rectify consumer problems such as the one you describe. Whilst I dont go looking for issues I certainly wont cop BULLs**t anymore from retailers/manufacturers that supply substandard goods and/or will not rectify defects in a timely fashion. VCAT is a great low cost way of rectifying these problems in a very timely and fair manner(no lawyers allowed)

This action ofcourse is premised on the fact that you cannot get a refund or cant get any further action from the retailer / manufacturer

Good luck

And a "Three Gun Salute" for you, sir. Not at you, 'for you'. I may not agree with what you say (and, then again, I may) but I applaud your right to say it. If I were to make such a statement on this forum I would draw (and have drawn) untold criticism. BTW, I 65-70% agree with you.

My, that sounds really bad. I would go nuts if my best lens was gone for this long. I didn't have my 24-70L for 10 days and thought that was going to kill me. I didn't have to go overseas, and NJ is only about 200 miles from my house, but you shouldn't have to give up an item you purchased for that long and not expect something from the company. I think if I was in your position, I'd ask for a refund, at least. Good luck. I wasn't going to post, but I feel these repairs are common, but your experience is rare. The part they are waiting for may be hard to come by or they are just not very good at locating one. Either way, your inconvenience is worth something.

Its a good lens but they should definitely give you a replacement, that's way too long to wait-what if your living depended on it?
