Hey guys, I just recently got back into photography and have started picking up some stuff 2nd hand to get things going.

So far I've got a G5 that I'm converting to IR, an S80 for my everyday pocket cam, and I've got an S3 IS coming next friday (so they say).

I have the oportunity to pick up a refurbished Pro1 at $300.

Is this going to offer me any advantages over the S3 IS ? I know the Pro1 has a good lens, but are the electronics outdated? I've read a review (from April 2004) that said the noise was pretty noticable at ISO 100 or faster. I like the idea of having at least 1 of my cameras working in RAW (other than the G5) so that would be a plus. Anyone with a Pro1 want to comment on their likes and dislikes with the camera.

I'm saving for a 30D but it may be a couple of months before I could swing it, so I'm just looking for some versitily until then.

Thanks!

Why dont you buy a used 20D? The 30D doesnt have that many advantages over the 20D, bigger screen is about the biggest plus of the 30D, you can get a nice used 20D for about $1000 or less if you shop around. Then you can save for a newer camera while you have the luxury of the 20D.

In my mind you are in danger of a surfit of cameras.
I would not buy any more yet.
First find out which you actually use.
After a while make a wish list from things you can't do, and want to do with your existing kit.
make a list of cameras that can do every thing you want and make an informed choice.
I think a knee jerk reaction based on price is not the right way.
Mind you $300 is not a lot of cash and you could always sell it again for that money.

Ok change of plans ! lol

I decided to buy an EOS 350D instead of the S3 IS and I'm forgetting about buying the PRO1.

I think I may have to sell the G5 too to help with the money though :( so I'll have to wait for a dedicated IR camera.

I have a pro1. My really likes it, I hate it. Great photos (at ISO 100 or so). Tack sharp, good color right out of camera...but...

I hated the Electronic viewfinder. I hated taking a shot..the the photo freezes for about a week (ok...not quite that long..but long)

I just got to where the camera was frustrating to use. It was useful, but I wasn't skilled enough to work around this with moving subjects. Curiously, I never had the problem of dust in the lens, that so many others had reported.
In fact, the only "problems" I had were the grainy viewfinder & the picture freeze..right after the shutter was pressed.
A lot of folks could work around that..I couldn't.

Personally, I really liked the G6 better, for functionality.

I think that's a very good idea. The 350D will allow you to get photos that the others won't. What lenses do you plan to get with it?

For beginning, the 18-55 kit lens and the 75$ 50/1.8 would be a decent basis.

Best regards,
Andy
