This is just a experiment to find out how much details are lost and get an idea of image quality. These were all taken from the same point on a tripod and yes, you can combine the TC2.0 and the TC1.4 together as long as the 2.0 connects directly to the lens and the 1.4 connects to the camera.
The first one is with the TC1.4 (F8, 1/500 sec iso 200)
The second one is with TC2.0 (f11, 1/160 sec iso 200)

Both TC combined for a 1120 X (no cropping)
1/250 sec f11 (reported) iso 200

The first shot gets my vote Dennis...exposure is spot on ...only thing some might find missing is the catchlight in the eye. The second shot also has great detail and for a 2X shot I would now seriously condider a 2x where I did not before...the lighting here is good also...light is a little harsher on the branch but still a shot I would love to call my own. I find the 3rd shot is very nicely exposed but other than the eye...it looks a bit soft.

This just makes the 1.4x more tempting.

Please don't get angry but I couldn't help myself. I exaggerated the first one by bumping up the contrast and exposure with a freebee program that came with an old HP camera.

Thanks Gary, I was surprised how good the TC 2.0 X was, and expected the poor results when I combined the two TCs together. (I had read that they couldn't be combined).

I like that TC, but hate giving up the autofocus. You can fool the camera by taping the TC's three separate pins with tape, you don't get a visual confirmation and it has to be very bright light for the autofocus to work.

The settings are above, they couldn't be the same because of the way the TC darken the field.

Thanks Fee, it was an experiment to see if the larger image was worth the hassle of focusing by hand.

Of course, image editing is allowed. Thanks you did a nice job, perhaps, making the 1.4 the clear winner. I should have used a stationary model than a live subject.

Nice experiment, Dennis. My eye is not calibrated well enough to have a problem with the TC's combined. But it's really nice to see the results with each TC individually.
I'm guessing you wouldn't hear any complaints from the forum if, out of the goodness of your heart, you repeated the tests with a stationary target. :-)
I'm just saying...

Nice work Dennis. :D 1120mm not including the crop factor? Not bad at all. ;)
I'm guessing you used the mirror lockup?

Well done indeed. Experimenting like this is always fun especially when the outcome is this good. :-)
