This guy was on the hunt for dinner, you can see the focus he had on the prey in his eyes, seconds after this shot he snagged a snack.

May 01, 2006 20:47 | #3 hey, todd, give us some time, 45 minutes isn't much. I think it is a Yellow-crowned Night Heron. Lots of sparkeling water drops so he is active. The shot is sharp but probably too tightly cropped for most viewers. Also, there is an orange pole right behind the bird. Just a suggestion, but when they get that look, wait for the catch and capture that picture instead. One great thing about birds, they display repetitive behavior, so if you miss a shot, stay focussed, cause they will do it again. MIKEIVAN

I know it must load for some based on the comments, but for some reason I see nothing -- no red x -- no nothing. Did you host this somewhere else or upload it here?

May 02, 2006 07:06 | #10 Todd, just in case you are not aware of them, there are two outstanding birding spots just west of you on Highway 87. They are full of migrant warblers right now. Sabine Woods is four miles west of Sabine Pass (north side) and The Willows is a bit further west (south side). Both have boardwalks, I wish I lived closer, I have only been there twice. They also have lots of mosquitos. MIKEIVAN
