Just thought the dead pine in the center really grabbed your attention, being surrounded by tall healthy pines and young new growth.

it's been there longer and had it's day I guess:(
maybe it just got smoothered by the roots and all the others being too close for comfort
is there a lesson in life there

it's a nice shot Sandy
love the bright colours

I love 'seemly' dead tree trunks
they too have or had their story
and if you look closer sometimes they even have some kind of 'face' carved in time on their weathered trunks
they always amaze me

your tree seems to be still reaching out
even though the branches are dead and bare

Thanks Marie; I too love old dead trees, I'm sure this one is still being very useful, it's more than likely home to many animals and birds. One of the reasons they have not taking it down is the fact they make wonderful animal habitats. :D :D

:)

that's a very good reason for it to stay there Sandy

here's an example of what I meant about faces on some trees

you may remember me showing this over 300 yrs old tree which was in Kilkenny Castle Grounds up to a few years ago
a storm blew it down one night and only this portion was left

for a while it was sectioned off
but now even that has gone, like forever:(
I have the few last pictures of it and hope that you can see clearly what looks like a man's face, raised to the heaven's

I was particulary fond of the tree when it was growing strong and quite sad when I saw what happened to it
it was huge and majestic when in it's full glory , overlooking the entrance to the castle (a small distance away ) and I pictured what it must have observed over the hundreds of years, of the people who walked around there and sat under it's spreading branches
wearing far different dress then what we wear now

the tree's roots were massive

Thanks Damin, yes spring is really coming on strong, well except for today, rain and very chilly, typical Scotland weather.
I liked the greens in this photo but I think I might have over sharpened a little bit. But the colors are just what I saw.

Marie; I well remember that tree, it looks like it was a beautiful Beech tree, not only is there a face there but you can also pick out where someone crave the letter 'B'. I'm sure you remember this post of mine of the largest tree in Connecticut, the Sycamore. it was a small sapling at the time of our revolutionary war, fortunately it is still alive. I wonder if George Washington camp next to it?

as well Sandy

we are like elephants remembering nearly everything
(for a change)

there is a tree very like yours (the last one you posted) near that one I show

your tree is beautiful
there would not have been much shelter with those wide open branches and trunks for George to rest under

although, seems he did not need any cover at all
" he escaped injury although four bullets ripped his coat and two horses were shot from under him. "

Nice shot, Sandy! I was in your neck of the woods last weekend and I saw many "Sandy-esque" shots as I drove through! Now I know where to go to get those great shots!

More than likely it was all the 'Adult Beverages' old George W. consumed that protected him. his consumption of alcohal was the biggest part of the war budget.
