I haven't gotten to your other posts yet, but I like what you've done here. If you're collecting opinions:

#1 - I agree with the post above...I'd crop out the lights. Nice, warm shot, though. I love it.

#2 - love this one

#3 - personally i don't like the composition & rotation here. they seem very awkward, and most of the shot is ceiling. I like that you've included some of the reception hall, but I'd do a closer crop & straighten it up. Tilted dancing shots just make me uncomfortable....looks like the shutter went off as you dropped the camera to me!

#4 - much better....tilt is much more subtle. i'd still crop in a bit more, but i like this one a lot better than #3.
#5 - cute! the tilt works here, i think. and i love the big chandelier contrasting with the cute little girl.....neat.

#6 - argh....the cake's gonna fall, it's tilting so much. :)

#7 - cute...tilt works here for me, but maybe not quite so much, and once again I'd crop in a bit.

#8 - nice catch of the bouquet

#9 - LOVE this one. the best in the series, in my opinion. great job.

#10- great candid, although it's nice with the caption....otherwise i could think he's screaming! hehe

overall, nice work!

Jim.......thanks for taking the time to comment on each photo......I really appreciate it. AFter reading your post, I realize how much "tilt" I put in my framing of a shot      . I will try to be more wary of that next time around.

Thanks again!!

Hey- I am looking to get great shots like the ones you posted from the reception. I had a reception disaster (thank god it was only practice)

What setings are you using to get such great color and warmth? camera/flash/lens/settings? I need help in this area!!!!

OK, this is very tricky.......the first question is how much of the background do you want seen?? This takes practice......dial down to around ISO 800-1000 (sometimes even 1600). Set your camera to M and open to your widest aperture and to a fast enough shutter speed without causing camera shake. Take a shot without using flash.......look at your LCD and see if you are happy with the ambient reading. If its too bright or too dark, then play with your ISO or AV/TV setting combo. When you are satisfied, let ETTL handle the rest........bounce your flash always (there is nothing more unflattering than direct flash). Use the white card that comes with the 580 EX.........if you dont have one, use the trusty business card and rubber band :) I would not recommend shooting AV mode in a dark room with flash (unless you want the trail blur - which looks cool when you are shooting in a club).

Hope this helps.

I find the custom function very helpful that sets the shutter speed to 1/250 in AV mode when you use the flash ... somehow similar to using AV mode, but more practical IMO. Plus, you see in the viewfinder when your flash has recharged.

Best regards,
Andy
