Hi guys,

I'm SOOOO Glad I found this forum. I have had the 20d since the beginning of this year, I love it, but have had problems with it. Some I found answer to right here... soft is ..... WAS a problem.

Right now, I have 30 photos of my kids that i shot in raw. I can view them on the camera, but the program does not see them. I can't get them off the CF? Anybody have a clue as to why I can't get them off. Jpegs are not a problem, but on that card (has work fine until now and it's new Kodak) raw is not being seen by the canon software, photoshop or anything...

Thanks for the help

Griff

Welcome to the Forum! You'll learn a lot from here and POTN members are so very helpful.

What I noticed on my cam is that I cannot see the raw files if I connect the cam directly to the computer via USB, but if I use the card reader....wallah.......there it is. Thought I wasted a day's worth of shooting.

What is odd is that I have normally been able to pull them off the CF card via USB. For some reason now though, I can't. I don't have a card reader.

Are you trying to use Windows explorer to view RAW files on the card while it is in the camera ???

If so, that's your problem. Windows won't recognize RAW files through the USB port of your camera. You need a card reader so you can connect the card directly to the computer and bypass the camera.... If you are doing this, then sorry.. No idea why you can't see the files. :)

Jim From the day the camera first got here, I have always shot important things in RAW. I connect the camera to the USB, XP recon=gnizes the camera, the software comes up and shows the pictures. I select the photos I want and it transfers them to the hard drive.

I edit in photoshop, BUT PS will not open a raw file, so I always have to go back to the software, view the files, and then convert to tiff file. Until now, that's always been the process. This is a new development.

The software I am using is the software that came with the camera.

Problem solved.. I can't explain it, I followed the exact same process and It's working now. I have no explaination, BUT it had to be something I did.

OK.. You're using the Canon supplied software.. Good.. That's the only way you can get RAW images off the card when it's in the camera..

You must have rebooted.. That always seems to work when things go awry :)

Sorry man. I thought it was working until I tried to convert and save, and then it was a no go. It would not give the option to go and convert them to Tiff or Jpeg. I could see the actual shot but that as far as I could get.

BTW is that a canon 100-400mm EF Ultrasonic L IS with image stabilizer on your camera?

Have a look at the post-processing section of the forum. your issue has been addressed several times. I don't know why this happens but basically, get a card reader and ALL your problems will go away.
I had exactly the same issue, and received exactly the same advice. A card reader solved everything, I was sceptical but it worked like magic.
And once I had one, it is so much more convenient than plugging the camera in! a lot faster downloading ( or is it up-loading???) pictures too.
