hey there,
i'm new to these forums and am glad to see how active they are! anyways - i'm a beginner photographer and have started shooted weddings and parties for friends so am excited about getting some ideas off of here - i'm also open to references for other forums and sites for good tips.
anyways, i was just on smugmug and noticed they have a new way of ranking popular photos - and i think that even people who aren't members can vote on other photos and browse for photos as well (i was looking for good/UNIQUE ideas for bridal party photos). has anyone else noticed this ranking? i don't think any other photosharing service does this??

Pc

I have a smugmug account, and have been very happy with them so far.
Last month I had over 14,000 views of my photos.
You can also see how many times each photo has been viewed as well.
Check out my Gallery (see below)
Yes , you are right anyone can rank the photos.
If you decide to join with them use the code in my signature to save $5.

I have a Pro account so it may be different for others. I can see the visitor ranking through the control panel by "bandwidth used" there is a link. 17393 hits for me last month.

The ranking idea snuck up on me but I like it.

Robert

Are you directing that to me?
If so,
Why is answering the question Pc has, a form of fraud, I thought this is what we do in the forum. Give each other tips, ideas, help, coupons codes and such.

Maybe Bob thinks the code to save $5 is a hack around SmugMug.

In case anyone is wondering, SmugMug has a legal referral program for its members. If anyone signs up using your code, they save $5 and you save $10 on your renewal.

All controlled and promoted by SmugMug.

If that wasn't what Bob was concerned about, then nevermind. ;)

My only concern is this new member who finds the first thing to post about is Smugmug ranking

Seems like promoting to me? which i would imagine is against forum rules ;)

My Canon can.. I just need to find out how

Good Heavens - my error.

I thought that it was a way of cheating SmugMug out of their legitimate fees.
Please excuse my error!

Go to your homepage and at the top you'll see TOOLS, select Control Panel

At the top you'll see Your statistics and from there you select more details

I hope that helps :)

Those of you who have a large volume of hits, do you know if they result mainly from keyword searches or do you advertise?

The way i think it works is;

1 - advertise a link to your gallery and people click the link and view your pics.

2 - if you enter keywords, they are only effective if you are part of the community. So for example, if i have Canon as a keyword people can search that and could potentially link to my gallery.

Having said that in the last month i've posted a link to one set of pics on POTN and another forum, and have had over 10600 hits (as of this morning). The link is only 2 weeks old. Oh how i wish that i was paid a penny for every hit ;)

But for me, i've not put them up to make money, only to share with family, friends and the POTN community.

For me the SmugMug layout and ease of use beat other photosharing sites out there, at a pretty good price.
