unidntified ducks, mabye a grebe

i took these at a local lake, i dont kwno what they are.. i know not the best shots, but they were kind of cool looking,, any ideas

I think it is a pied-billed grebe. During mating season the males have a strip around their bills.
They are great divers, one common name for them is "hell divers".
Neat birds.....thanks for sharing.

Yep, same as the little guy I saw for the first time a couple of weeks ago. We are on their migratory route. They are very cool to watch, I can see where their nick name comes from.
