I have just sent my 70-200 2.8IS into Canon Australia for repair.(busted zoom mechanism)
If you have had a lens repair done by them in the past can you give me any idea how long they took to get it back to you.
I am just looking for an average time as I really need this lens back by the middle of June.

Haven't had a lens repaired, but took them nearly 4 weeks to do a routine service checkup on a eos1D. I wasn't impressed.

Took my 100-400 in for repair. I was quoted 20 working days for the repair. I dropped it off at Canon North Ryde on 9/9/2005 and got it back 14/11/2005 - yep two months. Rang several times during this period to enquire on the status of the repair but never got a satisfactory response. Had to actually go to the service centre to find out what was going on. My wife also complained to the PA of the Managing director. When it finally was repaired I went to pick it up and had to wait 30 mins because they couldn't find it. I was told it had been packaged up for shipping out - to where I don't know because I was always going to pick it up. Sorry probably not what you wanted to hear. NOT IMPRESSED

Booked a 70 200 2.8IS in (Brisbane) with a 20D to get looked at regarding focusing issues. They had to ship it off to Sydney I think.. Came back good in a couple of weeks (got them to send it back to me). Happy with service.

On another occasion had to send the 20D in with grip to get the grip (1st gen) fixed. Was a bit annoyed I had to send the camera in as well, but had it back in a couple of weeks too. Good experiences so far.

I guess depending what the problem is, the time taken will differ. Busted zoom mechanism.. I wouldn't like to speculate, but I think you'd have to be quite lucky to get it back mid-June. Good luck though.

Sent my 10D in to fix a broken internal flash. Took them about 2 weeks, very happy with the service. They have a phone number you can ring to check on how the repair is going, check out the canon aust website for the number.

Dropped my lens off in Brisbane on April 4th. Get a letter dated the 6th stating they have got it.. still waiting to get it back.

This is a warranty repair of a warranty repair. Called last week and they still hadn't fixed it. Next week they reckon. Better bloody be, getting sick of waiting for it.

Regards,

John Tavendale
