I went out back to check out the bird feeder, nothing happening. I turn to go back inside and see him. We make eye contact, and unlike others he stayed put. In fact, as I stood still, he moved to find a spot where I waited for about 10 mins..............I have 20 images of the same scene. I get bored and turn to capture the bird feeder. The I hear a spash, I MISSED IT!!!!

He got a good grip, I took some shots and he flew off to finish his meal. By far the least shy GBH I have run across. With a 100% crop I can see eel eyeballs :D He was that close.

He flew away into some sunlight which gave me a faster shuter, perfect for the flight. I guess if I stepped it down his head would also have been in focus?

WOW.

I am trying to figure out if that is a snake, fish or enormous leach. Anyways, good shots, you caught the second one perfectly. The posture of the bird mid-air is very appealing to the eye and gives a real strong sense of gliding.

Here is a 100% crop that was 945 pixels wide, taken down to 800 wide.

It was slighly cropped, but not a full crop. Just testiment to this lens, taken at 390mm and only 1/250". Taken at 400ISO too, the IS and better ISO capabilities over the 300D really make me pleased :D

Beautiful shots! I still haven't managed a flight shot. I think I'm glad we don't have those eels over here. Or if we do, I've missed 'em so far.

I like the lighting and the DOF of #2. What f-stop was it? One of the best GBH flight shots I've seen. That IS can really help in certain situations apparently.
