I seem to have got some dust spots in the view finder on my 350D. The dust is not on the mirror and it does not come out on my photos. If I hold the camera to the light without a lens on I can see the dust. I tried to blow it out with a blower but it's still there. Should I worry about this or leave it well alone.

Its most likely on the focusing screen. Leave it be, you'll not notice it after a while usually.

I agree with Bluedog(congrats on becoming a goldmember), dust on the focusing screen. I had the same problem with a 10D a while back. I used a rocket blower to get rid of it

It has to be the focus screen.

The viewfinder is in tight focus on the focus screen. (To prove this, just move the diopter slightly, you'll see the focus marks go blurry). The mirror is TOO FAR AWAY for anything on it to be in focus. You can't see dust on the mirror.. Not unless you have a HUGE chunk.. But even then it would only appear as a hazy smudge. There would be no detail :)

would it be worth it to send your camera back to the factory for cleaning?

Had the same problem 2 days after buying my 350D so I followed the advice of the good people on this forum, bought a Rocket blower and very reluctantly gave the screen a good strong blast - without touching it with the blower - and it got rid of it.Wonder where it went though?Oh well out of sight...etc.

I've got a dust spot on my focus screen, but I just learnt to live with it. I dont really think its worth the hassle of trying to clean it off.

I had it with my 20D last year, and have it now with my 5D. I "tolerate" it. Too much trouble to get rid of it, and the sensor can't see it... :D

Oh yes this is very true. But I've got other problems... right now the 5D is back at Canon because of unheard of radial banding. Hopefully they will clean up this, ... and the sensor! :)
