I got a few shots of this Redwing Blackbird perching in the Rideau River 1 week ago today. He carefully moved down the perch to get a drink.

Canon 30D and 400mm F5.6L with monopod setup.

ISO 250 1/500 sec F5.6L

Clarity is very good in both shots. I like the image of the bird drinking water and then the satifaction of the bird in the second shot.

Excellent shots. Great composition and pose. Love the details. I always have a soft spot for behaviour shots like these. Brilliant work as always. :-)

Best regards

Sindri

Very well done Gary. Love the first pose with the reflection and the birds face slightly in the water. The catchlight in the eye works to define the even though its partially in the water. Well done...

Very nice looking captures Gary. They look like they are "Immatures".
Neat seeing it actually drinking; (Nice pose, with eye well in view).
For me; the second shot in my favorite. Great habitat shot, with nice exposure, good light showing some nice detail. Composition works..
The pose is wonderful; would've been GREAT to see him singing?
I wonder what it would look like with the reflection showing the full bird??..Just a thought.

number 2 is cool, I've seen them get sucked into the mouth of a big fish while sitting that close to the water.

I like these two shots, Gary. The water looks like it was brushed in, especial the top half...very nice!
