Very impressive! Your skill and patience combined for a great shot here. These guys are so much fun to watch, but they can be rather skittish.

This is a bird I am not likely to see although there are rare sightings the odd year. I like the shot Clare for the composition, pose, the clawss showing on the outside and the perch. I am not sure about the BG...did you do something here? If it was mine I would lighten it slightly ( -10 % shadows) auto contrast and remove 10 % saturation.

I think this is a very well composed photograph because of the angle the tree trunk makes and the turn of his head, as well as the claws protruding. Of course, the brilliant color and crisp focus help also. Additionally, you can never have too much green in the background. Very nicely done.

Hi Gary,
thank you, as regards the BG, it was new leaves, very green, I don't shoot in raw (my next project) and my ps skill are very limited  , so I'll apply your tip and see how I get on.

Thanks to all for the great comments much appreciated.
All the Best,
Clare

Very nice shot. The only thing that would improve on this is if the head was not completely within the parameters of the trunk...
