Juvenile Red Tail Hawk

I have absolutely fallen in love with bird photography, very exhilirating Here is a juvenile red tail hawk I photographed on Friday. C&C appreciated as I am trying to get better at this. Its not easy taking bird in flight photos, I am in awe of those of you who can do it consistently. Taken with a 100-400L atop Rocky Peak Mountain above Simi Valley, Ca

if only he had turnd round although i think you have done well here the angle is not the best i think most would agree the eyes/head really need to be seen in bird shots.

If , in the second shot he was looking back in your direction or if he was turned a little more so his head was in the shot then you would have a money maker. As it is it still shows the wonderful pattern on this bird and I would be pleased to have this in my collection.

Not always easy to get them to face you when you really want to. This morning I had a good shot of a magpie but he never faced me once. And before I had the chance to get to face him he was long gone.

This shot though is absolutely wonderful, to see the full wing span of this hawk.

Thank you for the comments. I found that even at 400mm I was craving much more length to reach the hawk in flight, its tough getting clear images against the sky as a backdrop.
