I saw a flash of red in a Linden tree and thought it was a Downy Woodpecker. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was a bird I did not know. After looking in Silbey's I realized it was a Rose breasted grosbeak. I have never seen one in Colorado and one of my bird buddies says it is extremely rare here. Taken hand held with the 100-400 and 1.4 TC at ISO 1600. Not very good shots, but enough to ID the bird. He is still hanging around-no sign of a female. I wonder how he got this far away from his normal range.
