I decided I couldn't live with a two month old flash that had a hole in it. I called up the 1-800-ok-canon # and after talking to a rep. he transfered me to the parts dept in N.J. but I am unsure if its the same place as the service center.

Anyway if you wish to buy a new face plate the part # is CY2-4108. The cost with shipping was $50.42. She said their is a little board attached to the inside which is why the cost was high for a little plastic piece. I didn't expect otherwise actually. It should be here in 3 days.

Dennis, I know this doesn't do you a whole lot of good but I have Sigma 500 DG-ST. The plate on the front looks just like the super from the pictures. The only thing wrong with it is the hot shoe attachment has a little corner piece broken off but still mounts. Maybe you could switch the face plates around. Very low actuations and I will let it go somewhat cheap.

You might post your original thread into the "Small Flash and Studio Lighting"forum. I have read many of the posts in there before buying the Sigma and the Better Beamer and never read a caution about the potential sun damage. You have done a very good thing.

I agree with Dennis, this needs to get out there to all that use the beamer. I have read the warnings posted on Art Wolf's site and well as on the photo.net board. I did not realize that it could happened that fast and when I read Blue's dilemma, I felt bad that I had not posted the warnings. I think the word needs to get out quickly to all.

When out in the field, I have made it a habit of removing the fresnel lens and leaving the brackets attached....then just popping the fresnel on as needed....

Well I didn't believe you, so I looked. It is not in BOLD RED.

This P!$$ed me off. I Picked up my 580ex the other day after using the better beamer 1 time. There was melting marks all over the flash, like a worm was burrowing. I was in the sun for an hour or two. I never thought that would happen as I generally point my lense downward. Arrrggggghh.
