Well I bought my first 'L' 17-40f/4 over the weekend. A couple of local stores were running no tax sales and they are still under Canon rebate. I'd had that and the 70-200f/4 'L' on my wish list for a while. Decided I'd get more use of the wide than the tele.

Congratulations, it's a great, sharp lense and I am sure you will be happy with it.

Congrats, it's an excellent lens, the best that I have. While I'm very impressed with the L I won't be ruling out third party alternatives in the future. The build quality is superb and IQ is stellar, but there seems to be some budget alternatives from Sigma and Tamron that rival L's for much less money. I'm sure the cheaper alternatives don't feel as darn good as the L's though...

I don't really have much use for the wide angle, but I loved that lens when I had it. Congrats.
