Okay, so my first digital camera was an A60 and I loved it, until I dropped it one time too many and it died. Now I have a Pro1. Anyhow, the A60 would download pictures and save them like 160-6043 or 103-0399, etc. I loved that. Well the Pro1 saves its images as IMG_6043 or IMG_0399, eliminating the three-digit number in the front. Unfortunately, now that I have taken more than 9999 pictures, the IMG_**** files are going to start duplicating. So, I was wondering if there was a way to make the camera download the pictures and save them with the three-digit number rather than the IMG? Right now I'm having to go through and change the IMG to the three-digit number, but that's really tedious and time consuming when I have 1000+ images saved this way.
Thanks,
Reed

EDIT: Oh yeah, I contacted Canon by email and their response made no sense. Then I called them and the technician was very unhelpful, sounded like he had no clue what I was talking about.

I have not had my pro 1 long enough to have this issue only have about 3600 pics or so on it.
Interesting thought though seems like once it got to the IMG_9999 it would just add another digit.
Well if you placed all the pics on the computer on disk then deleted them it would not matter if it duplicated the numbers.

Canon's software places all the images in seperate folders named by the day the images were taken. Since it is highly unlikely to shoot more than 9999 images in one day overwriting is not a real issue.

The main conflict I have with some of your suggestions is that I organize my photos in categories by what they are of. I would rather not have to go and split them up into different folders namimg their image number, but I guess I can if I have to. I was just hoping that there was a chance I could get them to download like the pictures from my A60. Darn.

Can't you just use the Windows scanner & camera wizard to copy the pictures from the card to the folder of your choice, renaming them as it goes?

Alternatively, Breeze Downloader from http://www.breezesys.com/Downloader/index.htm (external link)
which appears pretty spiffy.

I think that what you're seeing is a change in functionality in ZB between the time of the A60 and of the Pro 1. An alternate possibility would be that it handles card readers and cameras differently. Canon may have restored it - check on d/ling the latest version of ZB. I used to rename them from the DOS command line (REN IMG_????.??? 166_????.??? say) before I shifted to Downloader Pro.
