Well, I'll get one posted for now...I didn't have much free time to spend searching for shots, so spen a couple hours yesterday.

well.. right now i am just looking to set up some rules and get a flickr page for all of his photos.

I am working on it with a couple other POTN members so maybe we can start a little team for this!

well the previous page on this thread has a list going around and you can add your name to it. I am working on a better way to do the lists and maybe include a couple more niftys so more people can host them.

if anyone has one and would like to start one with me, i will be happy to set up a quick guidelines page and get it rolling for our website!

When you sign up to the group, please include your flickr user name to receive an invitation to the group so you can discuss and upload pictures. Once you have hosted nifty, you are permanently in the group. You may only upload images that have been taken by traveling nifty.

RULES FOR SENDING NIFTY ON HIS WAY

RULE #1: Obtain next person in line by contacting your coordinator/ admin.
Rule #2: Make sure he is in his original packaging and packaged securely.
Rule #3: Send him off to his new address.
Rule #4: You may use any shipping service, but you must provide tracking information to the coordinator and next in line.

I don't recall any rules about it previously, other than host, go shoot, share what you shot and have fun.

No, i'm not.... but i made the website for it. Im not trying to "enforce" anything and from contacting some of the other members, one major complaint was that it was taking forever to get things moving along.

I really just wanted to create a website so we can get all the pictures in one area and have a clean looking website for people to go to. I figure nifty should have a "real" website.

I wouldn't mind sacrificing my own nifty, but the reason i put you must be a POTN member is so that we actually get people who are part of the community here and not some random guy wanting to snatch a free nifty.

I am putting up the rules just to see if people are ok with that. I like flickr because most people have said that it is easy to share images and it has a map feature that could be neat to see the different images from different places.

I dont want to seem like im administrating the fun out of this, but it would be cool to have a few of them going around so we could all have a chance to host him... i will be adding myself to the list as well... or at least using my nifty to go around the east coast

if you have any ideas or constructive criticism, i will not take it personal.

I think your website would be best utilized as a place for the photos to be organized and shared rather then a replacement to this thread. Nifty is a POTN thing and I think it should stay here in this thread,although I do agree that there should be some sort of rules in place to keep it moving along.

Yeap... agreed. It would be cool for whoever is hosting nifty to have an area to upload (link) an image and write about their experience with nifty. i can take out the rules and related links for later use.

I think the flickr page is the best idea just to have images uploaded and see where the images were taken.

the only problem is that people actually need to be involved for it and that's where it stops. i dont mind just letting it continue on POTN, but as far as keeping things moving, something should change.

Really, i think the rules are fair enough and they are not very difficult. If people can agree on it, it really could get moving and wheresnifty.com will just be a 3rd party link to information about the where's nifty "movement" and photos.

something like the tracking number doesnt have to go into place, but uploading to the flickr account is a great way to share all the images in one place and will automatically geotag the pictures. i WILL make it public for anyone to join and that way, they could just upload the images there without having to be invited as well. http://www.flickr.com/​groups/nifty/

Signing up to wheresnifty.com just gives you permission to write blog entries about the images.

I dont want to have to put a ton of effort into it and and for it to seem invisible so i like to get the input from the members who actually brought it to life because those are the only ideas that keep it alive.

I really do not appreciate you hi-jacking this thread. This thread has been running in one form or another since 2005 as a strickly POTN activiity. Simply striking out and creating a website and setting up a set of rules to a thread that many of us have been active in for 5 years is a bit, well, rude.

If you want to start something on your own.. fine. Several people who participate here have actually DONATED lenses to keep the thread alive and active. I'm sorry if you aren't happy with the way things are going, but I personally have spent quite a bit of time organizing and keeping the thread alive, contacting members and working on donations. I don't want to open a Flickr account, If I want to write something about my hosting experience, I can do it here.. as to posting photos, all the participants are certainly welcome to do so.

I just feel that you have overstepped here. I have been watching and waiting to see what would happen, but now I feel the need to step in and request that you start your own thread and website and please feel free to donate a lens to the activity.

You are certainly free to sign up to host and post photos, but really, if you want to set rules and build a website and photo hosting site, please start your own thread.
