Finally, some photos from beautiful downtown Macungie, PA. Sorry for the delay - things have been quite hectic in my life lately. But hopefully that is all behind me now.

Macungie is located in the Lehigh Valley of PA, just west of Allentown and about 1 hour north of Philadelphia. The Boro of Macungie is the second oldest in Lehigh County, having been first settled in 1776. It was originally named Millerstown, after the founder Peter Miller. The name was changed to Macungie in 1875 to avoid confusion with the other Millerstown in Perry County, PA. The name Macungie comes from the Lenni Lenape Indian word "Maguntsche" which means "bear swamp" or "feeding place of the bears."
The downtown section, "Main Street" is actually State Route 100. It is a mix of commercial and residential. Most of one side of the street is very old stone or wood houses that are similar to row homes.

The other side of the street features several Victorian style homes, like the one below.

The Macungie Hotel used to stand at the north end of town, but it burned down many years ago. The site is now a garden area that is maintained by volunteers.

Also at that site, a small pavilion is patterned after a railroad platform. Two rail lines run through town and freight trains are very frequent (Sometimes I swear they go through every hour - but I know that's an exaggeration). No passenger rail service, although the other day the Ringling Bros. Circus Train passed through. That was a mix of passenger, freight and livestock. Wish I had gotten some shots of that.

Much more to follow later, but at least you all now know that Nifty and I are both still alive and kicking.
