Wildflower Meadow The meadows were originally seperated by overgrown hedges but now they are adding fences with barbed wire which is a shame. IMAGE LINK: http://www.flickr.com …bambersimages/9042984313/ Red Campion Here is an example of what they are doing. The tall hedge has been "laid" as you can see on the left. This is a traditional way of hedging in this area. The meadow has been fenced off which is obviously not what the locals want. They have removed the barbed wire from the part of the fence where the bridge is into the next field...which is actually called Bridge Field! It would have been better to have put a kissing gate in or similar. I think they were trying to stop people walking through the meadow and damaging the orchids... IMAGE LINK: http://www.flickr.com …bambersimages/9045371494/ Crossing to Bridge Field There are several colours of the spotted orchid in the meadows from pale pink through to purple. Green Winged Orchid IMAGE LINK: http://www.flickr.com …bambersimages/9043003429/ Green Winged Orchid Great Burnet was starting to open it's flowers. They are a bit like drum sticks waving in the breeze. IMAGE LINK: http://www.flickr.com …bambersimages/9043000189/ Great Burnet One of the grasses in the field is very rare and is only found at a small number of places in the country now. It is Downy Fruited Sedge which is only a small grass. You can see it faintly in the green winged orchid image. I didn't notice the huge leaf in the way!! As I only took one shot of it, I included it anyway. IMAGE LINK: http://www.flickr.com …bambersimages/9045225358/ Downy Fruited Sedge I did find some Early Marsh Orchids, but unfortunately only took pictures with my macro lens. Burnt Tip Orchids are supposed to be flowering there now, but I didn't find any when I visited.

Fort Langley is on the Trans Canada Trail - yes, there's a trail that will span across the country! 14,000 miles or 23,000 kilometres. It's a long, long walk. We grow flowers here as well. Hardly any of us city folk live in igloos any more.... Wednesday was the club's competition/evaluation night. I think about 90 people were there, this is taken early in the evening when the hall was still being set up. Fort Langley is build right on one arm of the Fraser River. It actually runs quite slow through this section but is fast enough to kill. It's frequently used here by the paddle clubs for practice.

We've actually spent quite a bit for our projector and screen to maximize the quality of the work shown by club members. This is the Reserve that initially traded with the HBC. Nifty does not lend itself well to wide angles.... The original Fort Langley
