More beautiful shots from you Peter!
Those stations are amazing and you did some nice HDR work there too..
It looks like the chrome piping around the pillars are there so people can bounce off! ;)

^ When I saw the picture I immediately thought of a giant pinball machine!! :D
Great pics indeed, Peter, with a very well done HDR.

Got some really good shots on my trip. As soon as I get them edited I'll post some here.

I also enjoyed pinball machines.
Actually I was in a windsurfing shop on Saturday, and they had one as decoration in the shop. It was called the Adams Family. Looked like fun, but wasn't turned on.

I used Nick collection for the HDR merge.. it is easy to use, and seems to do a pretty good job without halos etc.

First Series.

Abandoned Church

This is the place I have been wanting to go to for a while. It was on my way home and I had to stop and check it out at least. The stories I heard of the area were not promising. Depressed, high crime area. And to top it all off... a lake affect snow storm was moving in. I had driven through it in Chicago and had gotten a little bit ahead of it when I arrived. No time to lose I dug out the 40D with my wide angle and my 5D Mark II with the Nifty. As I walked in I saw a lady walking around as if trying to get inside. I walked into another section of the church and snapped a few pics with the wide angle rig. Then I walked around and followed the footprints in the snow which brought me to the main entrance of the church. WOW! What a spectacle to see! Large open area with what appeared to be a stage. There were two gentlemen up on the stage. Looked lime a father and son. The younger one also had a Canon mounted to a tripod. He took a couple long exposure shots. I couldn't help wonder why he was shooting with a tripod. I was very capable of getting good clear shots at 1/30 - 1/15. Although I had the ISO set to 1250 with no flash. I loved the natural lighting in this church. Flash would have severely altered that lighting effect. The shadows were creepy and the darkness just felt so right..

There was a beat up old chair sitting on the main stage

This is the main stage. As you can see it was huge and far enough back to take it all in with the Nifty

There was a stairwell off to the side in a little vestibule area. The stairwell was cluttered on one side with dust, dirt and debris. It was made of concrete and seemed pretty sturdy.

The Stair Well (First Floor to Second Floor

There were 3 levels that I trekked upon. The 4th level was pretty snow covered and I didn't want to take a chance and slip and fall as there was no hand rails going to the 3rd level and higher. The third level brought me to the balcony entrance. The balcony was deteriorating quite heavily. Scary that minutes earlier I was walking underneath it. Unfortunately I didn't shoot any of that location with the Nifty but I did get a shot with the wide angle.

I walked around the church some more and walked into the local pub...

Belly Up To The Bar...

Also on this level I met a man and a woman also carrying cameras (Nikons). There was a small room with another chair in it they were using for photos of each other. There was a fireplace also in the backdrop.

IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/msubhq (external link)
The more I walked around this place the more I felt that some of this beat up furniture was placed here by other photographers for portrait sessions here

I spotted this as well. Possibly planted for portraits as well...

Fallen Flower Basket

On to the third floor... I looked out the windows on this level and remember seeing a great view in someone elses photos and I found it!

Another great location for the hanging out the window shots.

It was beginning to snow in the area and I felt it may be time to head out. I had a long drive in front of me and didn't want to get caught in a blizzard. But silly me... I had to check out the main floor once I got back down there and it's a good thing I did...

To Be Continued...:)

Abandoned Church Continued

As you can see the snow was flying at this point but WOW again!!! What a spectacular room. This looked like it may have been the section that had the pews in it. Where the congregation would come and listen to the Methodist priest give his sermon on Sundays. It was symbolic at this point that I was there on a Sunday morning. :)

In this same location at my feet I noticed this.

I have no idea what it represents. A Hair manikin on a toy car...

And that was pretty much it for the self guided tour of this church. All in all it was a GREAT visit and I am glad I went when I did. There were no riff raff or violent people around. Just other exploring photographers with the same goals as I had. get some spectacular photos before the snow started falling again.

I took more photos and I will post them as soon as I get them processed but so far these were my favorites from that location with the Nifty.

OK, I better put myself up on the list once more, it's been a while and I've moved so new sightings to show.

At present we would like anyone wishing to host have at least a 200 post count or have been active on POTN for a year. Hopefully this will reduce the number of people that do not participate in a timely manner, or "forget" to move Nifty on to the next host, or simply don't care.
