Well, don't know if it will ever make it to me but, I would like to play

At present we would like anyone wishing to host have at least a 200 post count or have been active on POTN for a year. Hopefully this will reduce the number of people that do not participate in a timely manner, or "forget" to move Nifty on to the next host, or simply don't care.

I agree with a voluntary limit of a month. 1 week is far too short of a time when you don't know when you might receive it. The weather here has been lousy for well over a week, and I wouldn't want to have to pass it along without having a chance to get out in some nice situations.

Gripped 7D, gripped, full-spectrum modfied T1i (500D), SX50HS, A2E film body, Tamzooka (150-600), Tamron 90mm/2.8 VC (ver 2), Tamron 18-270 VC, Canon FD 100 f/4.0 macro, Canon 24-105 f/4L,Canon EF 200 f/2.8LII, Canon 85 f/1.8, Tamron Adaptall 2 90mmf/2.5 Macro, Tokina 11-16, Canon EX-430 flash, Vivitar DF-383 flash, Astro-Tech AT6RC and Celestron NexStar 102 GT telescopes, various other semi-crappy manual lenses and stuff.

You cannot give a time limit ;)

Ok.. this thread has been up and running in one form or another for over 5 years... Occasionally, as with you Reservoir, someone steps in to announce how they would like to run the Nifty thread. I will not be posting up any definitive rules. The "rules" will not be changing. The other part to that is... How does one ENFORCE said rules...
Will I be flying to Australia to track down the Dupan Nifty, that was DONATED. Will I fly to Europe to get redjamesg to shoot and post and move that Nifty along?
This is not a punitive endeavor. This is a place of sharing. We have had numerous things happen in the past. Nifties have been.. "misplaced", not returned, broken...
Everything has always worked out. Recently Phil found Nifty broken in his bag and generously replaced it. I depend on the kindness of members and they willingness to share.. There are many people who have waited 2 years to host Nifty... / Rant
So Reservoir Dog.. Thanks you for your thoughts.

I agree that you can't have a "hard" limit, but I would think that a "suggested" limit of a month might be appropriate. Just tell people that if you can't get pics posted within a month of receiving Nifty, then it's probably time to move it on anyway unless you have good reason to believe you'll get something posted "soon". I was guilty of hanging on to Nifty too long the last time I hosted.

I think I have enough posts and time on POTN. :p :-D

Is there a formal application process to become a Nifty host?

RANT/
Believe me when I say..
I spend a lot of time PMing people to prod them along..
Once again, what should I do?
I believe that I have expressed myself many times on this subject.
I WILL NOT put a limit (no matter, we can't enforce it) on how long a host, may host.
I feel that if we are getting images from the hosts, then keep them coming.
It does really bother me when people keep Nifty and forget about the reason they have it in the first place.
That is to SHARE photos!
So SHARE you hosts or move it along

Here's some more images I didn't post from last time.

I went to visit Quarry Bank Mill which is an old cotton mill built in 1784 with some of the original machinery still running. They have the largest working waterwheel in Europe and lots of heritage machinery and steam engines running the machines. They show progression of the cotton industry from mediaeval era through to the 19th century.

I haven't finished processing the images, but here are a few I processed a while ago.

The glasshouse was for the owner's house which was next to the factory. It is in the process of being restored, but is currently a rusty mess.

With regards to how long people should keep the Nifty's. My feeling is that as long as people are continuing to post pictures, then let them keep them for a while.

Where there is a problem is that some people keep the Nifty's and post none or very few images due to a variety of reasons. They should send them on to the next person and give them a chance to post.

Some of the Nifty's have been busy in the last 12 months, but others haven't moved much if at all.

What's happened to the Dupan nifty? Not seen anything from Australia/New Zealand for a long time which is a shame as both countries are beautiful.
