Halfway through is a passage where you can go underneath the building to the other side and there's a kind of square. It feels like a village square and it's simply lovely.
Now I couldn't back off more so I took a lot of shots for this pano. And it's not a good pano. Too many distortions that I couldn't clear up completely. Being so close to the building and shooting multiple layers, from ground level to the top, well, it can't really be done well with a 50mm lens. I also took my Samyang 14mm and my, they are nice! Not processed yet, but that's the kind of lens for stuff like this.

And turning around, here is the little old building that couldn't go.

The same little building from the harbour side. The dark bricks of Piraeus on the left and again on the right of the building. A pano again of course and as you can see the part of Piraeus on the right has the top cut off. That's because I'm stupid and didn't take enough shots... Still posting this so as to give you an idea of how cool this is.

A architectural theme on the KNSM-island is round shapes. There is more than one round building there. There is also a rectangular building with a round centre, called Barcelona. It has an enormous gate at the entrance. I didn't know how to photograph this with Nifty. The best way I thought was from the side. I didn't think it would work, but I'm amazed that Photoshop more or less stitched the many shots fairly well.

You step through the gate and this is what you see:

EDIT: Damn it, AMASS is doing it again! Just wanted to correct a typing error and the images disappeared from the post.

I wanted a more intimate look at the round square so this is a pano of many shots. I couldn't get the top row aligned. The angle was to different from the lower level shots. So it's not as wide as I would have liked, but I hope you still get an idea of how it looks when you're inside. It's very pretty.

I forgot one other shot of the Piraeus building, the west side looks like this. See, so many looks on this building. No side is alike.

My first few from this time around with Nifty. Haven't gotten out as much as I'd like, but got a few tonight. I have some plans for this weekend that should yield some nice shots if the weather holds.

very cool! hard to imagine someone sitting down & designing such neat buildings, but there's a lot of clever folks out there...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Thanks very much, Joayne, Kevin and Joeseph!
And yeah, it really is nice when architects design cool things.

So,

I'm done with the Eastern Docklands now.
I'll NOT be going back there, okay? Okay?!

 :p

A few more Nifty shots.

First, a different perspective (about 1.5", to be exact) on the Rhododendron I posted yesterday. I added 52mm of extension tubes to Nifty, to turn it into a strong macro lens.

I never saw this tiny bug when I was shooting; I wish I had, so I could get a better shot of it.

I'll bet you never thought of Nifty as a birding lens!
This is the original frame:

IMAGE: http://www.davidkerber.com/picposts/Nifty/_MG_1196_full.JPG

And this is it cropped to about 1/20 of the original image area. I was shocked when I saw how sharp it came out after the heavy crop.

IMAGE: http://www.davidkerber.com/picposts/Nifty/_MG_1196.JPG

And a couple more random shots from the neighborhood

We had to make a quick trip over to Vancouver Island on Monday to
visit with my father in-law who is in the hospital.
My wife said that I should bring nifty along and go take some photo's
and let her have some alone time with him.
I took a quick trip to the nearby town of Chemainus to shoot some of
their famous murals. Like a lot of towns on Vancouver Island, Chemainus
had been a logging/lumber town since its founding in the 1850's. Faced
with the closing of the lumber yard witch was the towns largest employer
and the uncertainty that was surely to follow in the late 70's early 80's
someone had the idea to start creating beautiful murals to depict the
towns history on its buildings to try and create some much needed tourism.
The first one was completed in 1982 and it was a success. There are now
more than 40 murals and 13 sculptures around the town.

There is more info here if you are interested

This is the first one that was done.
