Thank you very much Levina. They really are beautiful to see. I did
not have the time to shoot them all on this trip, but it is a really nice
little town to visit and tour around. My father in-law has a house
just down the road from here.

Yeah, they're really beautiful. I enjoyed them very much.
Must be a lovely place to live.

By the way, I'm sorry to hear you father-in-law is in hospital.
My best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Kevin, those murals are fantastic!
I'm sorry now that I didn't see them when I was on Vancouver Island!
Thank you for the link, it will make for interesting reading this afternoon.
Since we have suddenly shot up to triple digit heat the last two days, I'll be spending more time indoors!

Wishing your FIL a speedy recovery!!

Once a year my neighbourhood gets stuffed with bicycles. I mean, we're a cycling nation, yes. And it's hardly possible to take a photograph of any location in Amsterdam without bicycles being in it. But we have rules as to where you can put the darn things, parking spaces, bicycle racks, what have you. But now people are parking, correction "parking" their bicycles wherever there is room. This can mean only one thing: it's Evening Marathon time!

Actually I have no idea what it would be called in English. The Dutch term is "avondvierdaagse". Four eveningsin a row people walk a certain distance. At the last day they receive a medal. That's all. It's specifically aimed at children from primary schools. The marathan ends at Flevopark, which is where I live nearby and so I went out to snap some pics of the proud kiddies.

Weather was chilly, light almost none-existent. So I struggled and often had too shallow DOF. I really am not good at this type of stuff...
But I had a great time. And I bumped into a celebrity and before I knew what I was doing I asked her if I could take her picture and she said "yes". How cool is that? Less cool is that I dared take only one single shot and that she is not looking in the camera. Grrr... I've not processed the shot yet. First some children. But I'll start with a few bicycle shots, just to give you an idea of how they were everywhere.

Here are one or two on the bridge. The right side is just as crammed...

Coming up to the park the bicycles become an ocean. One last shot of them. In black and white to eliminate all the colourful distractions.
And of course f/2.2 is way too shallow DOF...

I also processed a few flower shots that I took at the Eastern Docklands.
I'm not very good at that kind of photography either, but I kinda liked these.

This one I took today, on my way home from the Evening Walk. I said "Marathon" didn't I? Well, wrong word because I think the longest distance in 15 km...
Anyway, I liked this one too.

It's time for the Avond4daagse! Four evenings walking, singing songs and having fun with your friends in class, sports club or association. The most pleasant walking event in the Netherlands....

So a "walking event"
In a city that cycles! Like you all don't get enough exercise! :p
Actually it looks like the kids had a lot of fun. And, I didn't see a chubby kid in the bunch!
Thank you for sharing these Levina!!

...And I love the flower shots ;)

Joayne to the rescue!!!
It's a walking event indeed. It's so obvious for me that I never gave it a second thought!

I didn't see any chubby kids either, Jo. But then, I'm guessing they're not the kind of kids that take part in such a physical activity.
I have more images to share and will do so tomorrow. Now it's time for bed.

Cool that you like my flower shots. Thanks very much.

I believe most cities and villages in the Netherlands have their own avond4daagse. I remember we had to walk them when in elementary school. Then later, when in the army, we had to walk the 4 daagse van Nijmegen.
York pictures bring back memories! !
Thanks
