Once a year my neighbourhood gets stuffed with bicycles. I mean, we're a cycling nation, yes. And it's hardly possible to take a photograph of any location in Amsterdam without bicycles being in it. But we have rules as to where you can put the darn things, parking spaces, bicycle racks, what have you. But now people are parking, correction "parking" their bicycles wherever there is room. This can mean only one thing: it's Evening Marathon time!
Actually I have no idea what it would be called in English. The Dutch term is "avondvierdaagse". Four eveningsin a row people walk a certain distance. At the last day they receive a medal. That's all. It's specifically aimed at children from primary schools. The marathan ends at Flevopark, which is where I live nearby and so I went out to snap some pics of the proud kiddies.
Weather was chilly, light almost none-existent. So I struggled and often had too shallow DOF. I really am not good at this type of stuff...

But I had a great time. And I bumped into a celebrity and before I knew what I was doing I asked her if I could take her picture and she said "yes". How cool is that? Less cool is that I dared take only one single shot and that she is not looking in the camera. Grrr... I've not processed the shot yet. First some children. But I'll start with a few bicycle shots, just to give you an idea of how they were everywhere.
Here are one or two on the bridge. The right side is just as crammed...
