And as I was cheerfully snapping away at the Walking Event, I suddenly saw HER!
She is a journalist, writer, and tv personality. She's in her 70's now and this year retired, more or less, from television. In the 90's she had a talk show on Sundays about all forms of art & culture, include popular culture, that was simply wonderful. I don't think I missed one show in the 7 years that it ran. She's erudite, smart and funny to boot. I've always been a great admirer of her. Her name is Hanneke Groenteman.

So when I suddenly saw her, I tapped her on her arm and said: "mrs. Groenteman, can I take your picture please?" And she said "yes". I still can't believe I did that. But I thought "I'll never get another chance, it's now or never" and I just did it.

And I took one picture. Not two or three. Just the one that I had asked for. Praying it would be good. And what do you know? She looked away...
But I'm still very happy with it. And doesn't she look good? She'll be 77 next month!

She looks to be a formidable personality, Levina!

I think it is a great shot, as she is comfortable in front of the camera.
It is sharp.. and that counts :p

De plantage and zomergasten were great shows, those are the ones I remember her presenting. To be honest my artsy side didn't kick in until a few years ago.

I'm sorry to be a bit absent but I've not been feeling too well these last couple of days so I'm taking a short time out.

Yes, De Plantage, 5 p.m. every Sunday. A great show. Zomergasten too of course.
And Hanneke also did Sterren op het Doek (Stars on Canvas - Dutch VIPs would pose as three artists would paint their portrait and then in the end the VIP had to choose which portrait they took home). As the VIP posed, Hanneke would talk with them and that resulted in some memorable tv as she is able to make people say things they normally wouldn't. Yet, she's not intrusive at all; she just has this calm and thoughtful demeanour). Ten years did that show run and I saw most of the episodes. Last one was in October 2015 but the show turned out differently than she thought as her VIP (Matthijs van Nieuwkerk) took over her part and she herself became the VIP to be portrayed. That was a beautiful episode.

The event I was planning to shoot was postponed for a couple of weeks due to the weather forecast, but I didn't see the notice. So I showed up and nothing was happening. But they let me take a few pics anyway. This is a horse rescue organization; the horses are taken from abusive or neglectful situations, and cared for here. If hey are considered to be "adoptable", they are adopted out to other homes.

This guy was very friendly. As soon as we came up to the fence, he walked over for some attention.

A couple more Nifty macro shots, using extension tubes. In the US, this is called a Daddy Long-legs. I believe that in the UK, it's called a Harvestman. I have no idea what the translation would be for other European countries. They are arachnids, but not true spiders. There is a common (at least in the US) legend that they have the most dangerous venom of all arachnids but their fangs aren't strong enough to penetrate human skin. This is not true; they don't even have venom glands, let along fangs to inject it.

Those are beautiful indeed, Kevin!

I feel terribly guilty about not being able to go out to shoot with Nifty right now.
Joayne, do you want me to send Nifty to RedJames already?
I mean, I had planned a few trips but I can't do them right now and I don't know how long this will last. Then, if there are no new people to send it too, it can always come back to me again and I could shoot what I want to shoot then. What do you think?

Thank you Joayne. Yes, it is the ferry that runs Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver to Nanaimo
on Vancouver Island and back.

I know you are having some difficulties, Levina. I think you may be able to shoot soon.
If you feel it will be a long time, send it off and have it sent back when things are better for you...

I know you hate to let it out of your sight!! :p
