Where's Nifty?! #2

I believe this is the most up to date list available.

At present we would like anyone wishing to host have at least a 200 post count or have been active on POTN for a year. Hopefully, this will reduce the number of people that do not participate in a timely manner, or "forget" to move Nifty on to the next host, or simply don't care.

* Though, this doesn't seem to alter the fact that people tend to forget to send Nifty on and tend to post very little... with some exceptions! To sign up to be a host, please copy the list completely, add your name to the bottom of the sub-list that is in your area of the world, paste the entire list into a new post with your name added.

There are many types of windmills, about 35 and each with their own speciality. In the Netherlands there was a great industrial area (the Zaanstreek - now a major tourist attraction) where they used thousands of windmills. Some were grinding grain, others sawed wood, or beat linseed to extract the oil for the dye industry. And then you had mills that could move water from low points to higher points. We call them Water Mills or Polder Mills. These mills had a scoop wheel and later a screw pump. One windmill could move water to a level about 1,5 metre higher with a scoop wheel and about 4 to 5 metre with a screw pump. Often an elaborate system of multiple windmills with intermediary water levels ("chambers") was used. Dutch windmills pumped dry our polders and made sure the reclaimed land stayed dry. Together of course with dikes, dunes, flood barriers, sluices and what have you. Most mills were retired when the steam engine was invented.

I knew that temple looked familiar. Now that I see the windmill I realized that you are nearly in my backyard (I'm in South Elgin).

Everybody, sorry for my absence. I'm back with Nifty now and processing shots, so get ready for some more art from the Rijksmuseum.

Clare, I'll be sending Nifty to you tomorrow. Will send you the track&trace info when I'm back from the post office!

Not sure how I can copy the list without affecting the formatting.. I swapped places with Clare, I'll be available to host EU nifty starting in July. I'll bring it along on a 2-3 months trip to the USA and possibly Canada.
