I have a couple of outings planned over the next few days...if the weather cooperates.

Timphoto Creme de la Curmudgeon More info Post edited over 5 years ago by Timphoto. | Mar 20, 2018 18:40 | #13316 We had a short break in the weather yesterday so Nifty and I went to Jack London's Beauty Ranch. It's a little over 4 miles as the crow flies from my place. If you prefer to hike, it's about 8 miles over the top of Sonoma Mountain, or you can drive 11 miles. During warmer weather one frequently encounters the "local denizens." Beauty Ranch was envisioned as a model farm: Jack London experimented with growing cacti for feed, eucalyptus trees for firewood, and wine grapes.

Timphoto Creme de la Curmudgeon More info | Mar 20, 2018 20:28 | #13317 The some of the old winery walls are still standing. This is the current view looking toward the "Worker's Room." Most of the interior walls are either gone or just barely standing. The Museum was closed. We didn't have time to hike over to the Wolf House ruins, the silos, and the Pig Palace. Maybe next time. Most of us remember Jack London as a famous author, not a rancher or winemaker. After Wolf House burned down in 1913, Jack and his wife Charmian lived in the Cottage near the Old Winery. The southern side of the Cottage where Jack slept and worked This is the wing where Jack and Charmian entertained. The far right is the kitchen.

Mar 20, 2018 21:58 | #13318 Everything looks great Renata and Tim. I have been so busy with work lately and haven't had much free time. But after a year and a half of hosting Nifty he has finally moved on..... returning to the west coast in into the capable and caring hands of Kasrielle. Joanne it is time to update the list. It was fun hosting and it I went out to shoot more because of Nifty. Trever Canon 7D, 24-70 F2.8L ii, Sigma 10-20 1:4-5.6 DC HSM, and a bunch of other little stuff to make light sorta work. Deviant

Timphoto Creme de la Curmudgeon More info | Mar 20, 2018 22:36 | #13319 The offices where Jack London created stories and novels, wrote personal correspondence, and conducted ranch business. London's sleeping and other work area. He used a clothesline with notes as he created his stories. Jack enjoyed practical jokes. Note the rope tied to the near bedpost. A few years after the 1906 earthquake that destroyed San Francisco and nearby Santa Rosa, he rigged up some pulleys and ropes and in the middle of the night would yell "Earthquake!" while the bed was pulled back and forth across the room. Charmian and Jack slept separately because Jack like to work late and then was up at 5 a.m. again writing before she and their guests woke up. This is her bedroom with the window seat Jack built for her. Charmian had 27 different colored pairs of slippers.

The phonograph on the left accompanied them on their travels. The laundry. The kitchen. (DUPLICATE IMAGE) That ends our tour of Jack London's Beauty Ranch for now. If you're in the Sonoma Wine Country, it's a great place to visit. If you ask the guides, they have discount tasting passes for a nearby winery.
